After 22 Republicans Betray Their Party – Speaker Johnson Makes 1 Powerful Promise

For weeks, Congress has fought over the border crisis. President Biden refuses to use his executive authority to close the border. And Democrats don’t seem to care. They are only interested in spending more money on other nations’ border problems.

The Senate came up with a “border” bill last week, but it was shot down as it provided more money for Ukraine than the U.S. border.

Now, this week, the Senate put forward yet another massive spending bill. It provides billions for Ukraine, Israel, and other nations. But not a penny of it goes to address the massive border crisis. And half of Senate Republicans supported it.

From Fox News:
The Senate passed a $95 billion national security supplemental package to assist Ukraine, Israel and the Indo-Pacific after a tedious procedural process that came to an end early Tuesday morning.

The final vote was 70 to 29, with 22 Republicans voting yes…

The supplemental package does not include any border security provisions and comes as the national debt soars above $34 trillion.

Republicans voted down the controversial border bill in the Senate last week. But this week, twenty-two of them helped pass a bill that burns through $95 billion for security measures… in other countries.

The package contains nothing for the U.S. border, which has seen over 6 million migrants cross it illegally since 2021.

But if the Senate thinks this bill will sail through the House, they are sorely mistaken.

From The Post Millennial:
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has indicated that he will block the package.

The bill passes and moves onto the House after an all-nighter slog of conservative Republican senators filibustering the measure…

In the evening, before the bill passed the Senate, House Speaker Johnson posted a statement to X indicating that he would block the package in the House.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson blasted the recently passed Senate bill. He issued a scathing rebuke to the Senate, stating that the national security supplemental legislation was first and foremost about securing the nation’s borders.

Instead, the Senate passed a bill that provides money for other countries, but not the U.S.

Critics might suggest this was the Senate’s plan all along. Provide a bad bill first, that would be shot down. Only to quickly pass this second bill in its wake, which will send money to their pet projects like Ukraine.

Perhaps this bill would have passed through the House under other speakers. But Johnson has made it clear that it is DOA. It is likely the bill won’t even be considered for a vote.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Senate passed a security bill that provides $95 billion to other nations.
  • The bill does not contain any funding for the U.S. border.
  • House Speaker Johnson rejected the bill, refusing to let the House vote on it.
