The criminal case against Donald Trump in New York dragged on this week. The prosecution—led by Democrat Alvin Bragg—put their “star” witness on the stand this week.
Michael Cohen, a former Trump employee, has led the claims that produced this largely panned criminal case.
After testifying against Trump, Cohen faced cross-examination from defense attorneys. And the man trying to get rich and famous by turning on Trump crumbled under the pressure. Even CNN analysts were giving Cohen and the left the bad news.
From Daily Caller:
CNN legal analyst Joey Jackson and criminal defense attorney Bill Brennan… said that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s star witness Michael Cohen experienced a beatdown on Thursday…Jackson and Brennan agreed on “CNN News Central” that Cohen’s testimony was brutal for the witness and that Trump’s defense attorney Todd Blanch made significant progress during the cross-examination.
“Wow! … If not a knock-out punch, it certainly put him on the mat, right? And knocked him down,” Jackson told host Sarah Sidner.
Legal analysts for CNN discussed the cross-examination of Michael Cohen by Trump’s defense. And they explained that not only did Cohen’s story collapse under scrutiny, but his role in this case might have destroyed the prosecution’s accusations.
One of the analysts said if it wasn’t a “knock-out punch,” it certainly “put him on the mat.” The questioning revolved around a phone call Cohen claimed to have with Trump about the supposed hush money. The defense shattered Cohen’s claim that he had called Trump on that day.
Instead, he had called a bodyguard. The defense also hammered Cohen for previous lies he made while under oath, which resulted in him being convicted of perjury and serving time in jail.
Legal experts had previously pointed out that Cohen’s antics outside of court were hurting the prosecution’s case. Cohen has been using the publicity from the trial to build a following on TikTok. And he has even tried to garner donations through the social network while talking about the case.
Cohen’s testimony seems to be far weaker than he claims. And it does not seem that he nor the prosecution are providing clear evidence that Trump falsified records or even supported paying “hush money” to anyone.
The CNN analysts predicted Cohen’s crushing failure will prevent the 13 jurors from coming up with a guilty verdict.
Key Takeaways:
- CNN analysts claimed Cohen’s cross-examination destroyed the case against Trump.
- Defense lawyers hammered Cohen’s stories, accusing him of lying.
- Michael Cohen is considered the left’s “star” witness but has appeared to only hurt their plans.
