After terrorists attacked Israel, many Democrat leaders in the U.S. turned on our ally. President Biden has been vocally critical of Israel’s war against Hamas. He has even paused shipments of weapons that could save Israeli lives. Joining him were other Democrats, who seemed more concerned with angry progressives than stopping Hamas.
One of those Democrats was Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. He blasted Israel for fighting in Gaza. He even called on the country to remove its prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, from power.
But Israel is refusing to cower to Democrats’ pressure. And the nation has vowed to continue fighting despite the left’s opposition to its goals. Now, Netanyahu has a special privilege, which few are given. And Schumer himself had to eat his words.
From Breitbart:
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to address a joint session of Congress on July 24 at the behest of U.S. congressional leaders. The moves comes more than a week after House Speaker Mike Johnson announced that Netanyahu would speak at the Capitol, as Breitbart News reported.
“The existential challenges we face, including the growing partnership between Iran, Russia and China, threaten the security, peace and prosperity of our countries and of free people around the world,” Johnson, R-La., Senate majority leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said in the brief letter of invitation, UPI reports.
Congressional leaders have invited Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu to speak at a joint session. The Israeli leader will appear before both chambers of Congress on July 24th. Chuck Schumer, who previously wanted Netanyahu out, was included in the letter sent to the leader.
It’s funny how Schumer’s opinion changed so quickly when the rest of Congress sent out this letter. Democrats appear to be opposing Israel only because they fear losing progressive votes. The far left has openly sided with pro-Gaza, anti-Israel groups. They have threatened to oppose Biden in the November elections.
It seems other Democrats fear losing votes from the far left as well and are ganging up on Israel. But they risk losing support from moderate voters, including many Jewish Americans who support Israel.
Progressives are sure not going to appreciate Netanyahu’s appearance before Congress. Expect protests and complaints from college students who have become mouthpieces for Hamas and Iran. But this will be a crucial moment for Netanyahu to defend his nation’s right to exist and push back against a growing tide of global antisemitism.
Key Takeaways:
- Congressional leaders invited Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to speak.
- This includes Chuck Schumer, who previously called for Netanyahu’s removal.
- Democrats have become openly hostile toward Israel after progressives sided with Gaza.
