Here are the facts. There are two types of politicians these days. First, you have the public servant. These are the leaders who remember they work for us. Their job is to make sure our streets are safe and our money is not wasted. You don’t see them on TV much. Why? Because they’re too busy working.

Then you have the other kind: the political celebrity. For them, being a mayor or governor is just an audition for a bigger stage. They care more about getting on cable news than they do about fixing the problems in their own cities. Ever notice that? They are happy to let things fall apart at home as long as they get their face on camera.

And boy, did we just get a perfect example of this. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson popped up on MSNBC. Their mission? To attack President Donald Trump. They said the president was “sowing fear”—which is pretty rich, isn’t it? But the best takedown didn’t come from a Republican. Nope. It came from an actress.

That’s right. Justine Bateman, who you probably remember from the great show Family Ties, saw right through their little performance. She went on social media and said what we were all thinking.

From Breitbart:

Former sitcom star Justine Bateman ripped the mayors of Chicago and Los Angeles for wasting their time on MSNBC instead of actually doing their job and governing their cities and she had especially pointed words for L.A.’s chief executive…

For the love of God, can you just do your job? Can you attend to the city of Los Angeles? What are you doing on national news shows? Unless you’re running for President, we don’t see the purpose. Use your time instead to fill our potholes, deal with the city’s crime, get the reservoirs filled for the next fire, get the @LAFD off-line trucks fixed, etc.

The Performance vs. The Potholes

And she is 100% right. Think about it. Potholes. Crime. Water. Fire trucks. These aren’t complicated political ideas. They are the absolute basics of running a city. Bateman’s list is a perfect summary of what leaders are supposed to handle.

For a mayor to ignore all that for a TV show is a total betrayal. It shows you who they really care about: themselves and their political party. The good people of Los Angeles and Chicago did not hire a cable news pundit. They hired someone to run their city, and that job is clearly not getting done.

When Hollywood States the Obvious

Here’s the kicker. This is what makes the whole thing so perfect. The criticism came from someone in Hollywood. It shows that the failures of these liberal-run cities are so bad, so obvious, that everyone can see it now. You don’t have to be a conservative to know your city is falling apart.

Mayor Bass says President Trump sows fear. Really? Let me ask you, what’s scarier? A tough speech from a president, or the real fear of crime on your own street? As Bateman has said before, a leader’s main job is to fund the police and fire departments. If they can’t even do that, they are useless.

This isn’t just about two mayors. It’s about a sickness in our politics. It’s about so-called leaders who have completely forgotten who they work for. Justine Bateman’s simple message is the same one we’re all thinking. It’s the voice of every American who is tired of the show. Just do your job.

Key Takeaways

  • Democrat mayors are prioritizing TV hits over fixing their cities.
  • The failures of liberal policies are now obvious to everyone.
  • Leaders blame Trump for the fear their own policies create.
  • Public service means solving problems, not seeking fame.
