A Reuters/Ipsos poll released Tuesday found that just 36% of people approve of Biden’s job as president, tying his record low-performance rating in July 2022. The new rating is a decrease of 2 percentage points from one month prior.

Biden started with a positive approval rating, which he held until August 2021, after which it never recovered.

Especially worrying for Biden is that respondents gave former President Donald Trump significantly higher ratings in several key fields, including the economy, immigration, and foreign conflicts and terrorism.

The numbers should be more than worrisome for Democrats who are betting the presidency on Biden’s ability to influence voters. So far he has mumbled, bumbled, and stumbled his way into the memories of voters who see him as a feckless clod.

The poll showed that about 40% of people believe Trump had better economic policies, compared to 30% who favored Biden. Trump dominated Biden on immigration with 42% preferring the former president while just 25% picked the incumbent. Trump also won out on the topic of foreign conflicts and terrorism with 36% of people favoring him compared to 29% for Biden.

Biden slightly edged out Trump on political extremism with 34% who said they preferred the incumbent’s tactics compared to 30% who preferred Trump. These numbers could prove significant for the November election with Trump moving ahead of Biden in many early polls within key swing states.

A neck-and-neck race into November could turn against Biden, especially if Trump wins his various civil and criminal legal battles. Biden doesn’t appear to have the mustard to surpass Trump without outside help from the liberal media and weaponized federal agencies.
