Weeks Before Election Day, Biden-Harris Admin Announces $4.5B in Student Loan Handouts

We are less than three weeks away from Election Day. With the race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris as close as can be, Democrats are taking desperate measures to win over as many voters as they can.

Over time, Democrats typically alienate older voters who become disillusioned with the left’s failed policies. That’s why Democrats often end up catering to younger, more naive voters in a desperate attempt to win elections.

Sure enough, on Thursday, the Biden-Harris administration announced yet another round of student loan handouts. This time, they will be removing $4.5 billion in debt for more than 60,000 borrowers who work in public service.

From Fox Business:
The Department of Education said in a news release the relief came about from “significant fixes” to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program. The action brings the total loan forgiveness approved by President Biden to more than $175 billion for 4.8 million Americans, including $74 billion for more than one million borrowers through PSLF.

“When President Biden and I took office, only 7,000 people had ever been approved for Public Service Loan Forgiveness. Today, I am proud to say that a record one million teachers, nurses, first responders, social workers, and other public service workers have received student debt cancelation,” Vice President Kamala Harris said in a White House statement.

A White House announcement on Thursday morning put the total value of the handouts at $4.7 billion, but later adjusted it to $4.5 billion.

Harris later doubled down by adding, “Our Administration has forgiven over $170 billion in student debt for nearly five million people throughout the country — more than any Administration in history.”

Republicans Fire Back

Republicans have previously fired back by arguing that Biden and Harris’ approach to student loan forgiveness is an overreach of authority. Conservatives have also claimed that it is an unfair benefit to college-educated borrowers when others aren’t receiving any such relief.

It should be noted that the Supreme Court previously issued a 6-3 decision blocking the Biden-Harris administration from canceling more than $430 billion in student loan debt. Biden and Harris later tried to do this once again for 30 million student loan borrowers under the Higher Education Act of 1965, but this also ended up being stalled in court.

Of course, Biden and Harris don’t actually care about student loan debt. Instead, all they care about is winning over enough young voters to put Harris in the White House.

With less than three weeks to go before Election Day, it’s clear that the enthusiasm for Harris among young people simply isn’t there. While older voters will typically cast their ballots no matter what, young voters oftentimes need to feel inspired in order to actually get up and go to the voting booth.

Given how close this election is, Harris needs all the votes that she can get. That’s why it comes as no surprise that she’s getting desperate when it comes to winning over young voters with student loan handouts. Only time will tell if this pays off for her.

Key Takeaways:

  • Biden-Harris announces $4.5 billion in student loan handouts.
  • This comes less than three weeks before Election Day.
  • Harris may be getting desperate when it comes to winning over young voters.
