James Carville Claims the Political Career of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Is ‘Toast’

James Carville has been one of the top Democratic strategists for decades. This week, he revealed which major Republican’s political career is over in his book.

For much of the past decade, the Republican Party has focused on Donald Trump. This has overshadowed politicians like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who many had once seen as the future of the GOP.

Carville believes that DeSantis’ ship has sailed when it comes to politics. In his mind, DeSantis’ political career “is toast.”

From The Daily Caller:
“DeSantis is done, all right? He is toast. He can’t go back to the Trump people,” Carville said. “The Moms for Liberty are getting slaughtered. Big flash point, people don’t like book burners, okay? They went all into that. I’m very reluctant to declare anyone’s political career over, but DeSantis, you may be done, dude. You’re just done. I don’t know if you’ve got a place to go.”

“Who cares what James Carville thinks,” Desantis’ communications director Bryan Griffin told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

DeSantis ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. During his brief time in the race, Trump nicknamed him “Ron DeSanctimonious.”

DeSantis ultimately suspended his campaign in January before endorsing Trump. Even Carville praised the Trump campaign for knocking DeSantis out of the race.

“What they did in the primaries was really remarkable,” Carville said. “We tend to write that off. He was an incumbent polarizing figure, you would say, ‘well he’s going to get what he starts out with,’ but actually he ended up with a lot. What they did to Ron DeSantis, what Susie Wiles did to Ron DeSantis, has to be one of the great cutting jobs I’ve ever seen in politics.”

DeSantis As Governor

DeSantis has been governor of Florida since 2019. He was widely praised for handling the COVID-19 pandemic, keeping his state open while Democrat-run states like California and New York shut down completely. This made DeSantis a popular figure on the right and indicated to many that he would be a contender in the 2024 presidential election.

Unfortunately for DeSantis, however, Trump just can’t be beat. After four years of suffering under Joe Biden’s regime, Americans are simply ready to return to living in Trump’s America.

Carville may have a point about some of the momentum behind DeSantis’s departure. However, DeSantis has remained a popular governor, turning Florida into one of the most desirable states. Indeed, people are still fleeing blue states in droves for a better life in the red state of Florida.

In addition, DeSantis is only 45 years old. In the world of politics, he is still incredibly young. This means he still has decades to make his political dreams come true.

Ultimately, it’s far too early to write DeSantis off completely. That’s why Carville shouldn’t be surprised if his prediction that DeSantis’ “is toast” politically turns out to be dead wrong.

Key Takeaways:

  • Carville says DeSantis “is toast” politically.
  • Trump has overshadowed DeSantis.
  • At 45 years of age, time is on DeSantis’ side.
