Not that long ago, the left tried to cancel country music singer Jason Aldean. His latest song was climbing the charts, until they got CMT to cancel it. They accused the song “Try That in a Small Town”–which criticizes crime in big cities–of being problematic.
But Twitter owner Elon Musk brought to light a shocking development. The New York Times reported on a political rally in South Africa. During the event, the people sang an old song “Kill the Boer.” But this is how the NYT tried to spin it.

Elon Musk on Friday called for people to unsubscribe from the New York Times after they said a chant at a large South African political rally, seen in a now-viral video, “should not be taken as a literal call to violence.” The chant at a Johannesburg stadium was led by South Africa’s third largest political party, EFF, called to “Kill the Boer.”
“If ever there was a time to cancel that publication, it is now.”
Okay, so let’s break this down. Liberals, including folks in the mainstream media, accused Jason Aldean of encouraging violence in his song. Yet the New York Times defended South Africans who sang a song with the lyrics “kill the Boer” Boers are white South Africans who descended from European colonists.
The New York Times says it’s perfectly fine for folks to sing this during a political rally. They claim it “should not be taken as a literal call to violence.”
Oh, really? When a white country music singer defends small towns, its violent. But when activists sing a song about this–we are supposed to say it’s not literal?
Maybe those activists weren’t being literal. But how can anyone be comfortable singing lyrics like that? And why should it be okay for this group to do it, but it’s not okay for Jason Aldean–who didn’t advocate what they say he did?
Musk was outraged, being a white South African native himself. And he urged Americans who are still–for some reason–subscribed to the New York Times to end their support of the paper.
We can’t claim to know if these South African activists truly are advocating what they are singing about. But for the NYT to show such a double standard is shockingly hypocritical. Had people at a Trump rally sung a song like this, the left would have called for their arrest.
