After Democrats Threaten Court Packing – 6 GOP Senators Propose A Constitutional Amendment To Stop It

What’s Happening:

Even moderate leaders like Chris Coons are now admitting that Democrats plan on packing the Supreme Court.

So afraid of Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation, they threaten to give themselves a liberal majority.

Assuming, that is, they can win back the Senate, White House and keep the House.

Joe Biden has refused to declare his position on court-packing, but he has committed to sharing his position after Barrett’s nomination succeeds or fails, and before the election. But people can figure out which way he is probably leaning.

Not willing to let Democrats undermine the integrity of the court, several Republican senators are taking action:

The first proposal is a constitutional amendment that would block the expansion of the Court — commonly called court packing. The other proposal would “stop Democrats from unilaterally passing any court-packing legislation in the United States Senate.”

… “Make no mistake, if Democrats win the election, they will end the filibuster and pack the Supreme Court, expanding the number of justices to advance their radical political agenda, entrenching their power for generations, and destroying the foundations of our democratic system.”

Republican senators are exploring a number of proposals for preventing Democrats from packing the Supreme Court with left-wing justices.

Perhaps the most dramatic proposal is a Constitutional amendment that would prevent the Senate from passing court-packing bills.

Democrats have long threatened to pack the court, out of bitterness of Trump’s success with federal court appointments.

When it was announced that Trump would fill RBG’s empty seat, Democrats had a meltdown. That would give the Supreme Court a solid conservative majority—something Democrats have fought for years.

Their only solution, it seems, is to pack the court with as many radical, left-wing justices as necessary to create a liberal majority.

Such a move would prove Democrats aren’t interested in the separation of powers, but only creating situations where they always win.

So much for democracy.

It’s a longshot that Democrats would be able to win back both houses of Congress and the presidency. But Republican senators are drawing a clear line in the sand on court-packing.

Their Constitutional amendment is unlikely to pass, given the House, but it highlights how seriously they are taking the left’s threats.

Key Takeaways:

  • Republicans senators are proposing an amendment to prevent court-packing.
  • Democrats keep threatening to pack the court to give themselves a left-wing majority.
  • They have promised to upend centuries of tradition to spite the president.
