After the Astros defeated the Phillies in the World Series, there was plenty of celebration in Houston. This included the traditional parade, and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) took part in the festivities.
But he couldn’t have expected that someone from the crowd would actually attack him while he was standing in the back of a truck.
Cruz wasn’t hurt — but he did have a few choice words for his assailant.
Shortly after the parade, a video showed up on social media showing what happened: a beer can comes flying at the Senator, which his aides tried to block. The can did hit Cruz, however:

Houston law enforcement later confirmed they’d arrested a 33-year-old man for throwing the beer can. They also confirmed that Cruz didn’t require any medical attention.
However, it’s still assault. As HPD stated:
Nearby HPD officers arrested the male without further incident.
He was taken to jail and faces assault charges. We will release the suspect’s name and booking photo here when formal charges are filed.
Cruz was standing in the back of a Hummer with his daughters, and it was clear the can was directed at the Senator.
The Texas Republican wasn’t fazed by the event, though, and released the following reply:
As always I’m thankful for the Houston Police and Capitol Police for their quick action.
I’m also thankful that the clown who threw his White Claw had a noodle for an arm.
The GOP Senator has become one of the more popular politicians in the country among conservatives, though of course he isn’t well liked by the left.
Most are assuming the man who threw the beer is a liberal, but we have no information on the attacker at this time. Either way, Cruz proves he’s not easily rattled, and willing to take a few jabs himself.
Political violence has been ramping up in recent weeks, which is of serious concern for both parties at this point.
