Ron DeSantis Slams the Door on Manhattan DA – Says He “Will Not Assist” DA in Extraditing Trump

The news of former President Donald Trump’s indictment slammed into the political world late last night, and it has dominated headlines ever since.

Trump is now facing over 30 charges and while he maintains his innocence, the left is crowing about a major victory. And it comes shortly after Trump announced his 2024 presidential run.

But his projected #1 opponent – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis – just stood up for the embattled former POTUS.

Since confirming his candidacy for 2024, Trump has continuously attacked the popular Florida leader. Though they were once allies, Trump has since amped up the aggression.

DeSantis has responded to some of the remarks but he has yet to officially announce for 2024. And he’s obviously not a close friend of Trump’s right now.

However, he’s still not going to assist in the “un-American” indictment of #45, and he has some strong words for those who seek to bring Trump down.

From Fox News:

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said his state ‘will not assist’ in any extradition request by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg amid what he called ‘questionable circumstances’ while slamming the charges against former President Donald Trump as ‘un-American’ and as a ‘weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda.’

DeSantis points out that “the Soros-backed Manhattan DA has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal conduct.”

And now the DA is “stretching the law to target a political opponent.

Republican leaders have been calling out Bragg and Democrats for politicizing the justice system for their own agenda, which is a serious accusation that has far-reaching implications on our entire structure.

DeSantis is one of those critics, and he has confirmed that he will not respond to any extradition request.

Trump’s primary residence is his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, which was raided by the FBI last year. That may have been the first step in an overarching attempt to take down the former Commander-in-Chief.

Now he’s facing charges of hush-money payments, both to former pornstar Stormy Daniels and to Playboy model Karen McDougal.

These payments have been under investigation since 2018, so it seems highly coincidental that the hammer falls just after Trump announces another presidential run.

His supporters say it supports a pattern of legal and political assault that has fallen on Trump’s soldiers since he won the 2016 election. The left will stop at nothing to keep him down, they continue to claim.

This won’t stop Trump from running again in 2024 — though it remains to be seen if it hurts or helps his popularity.

As for DeSantis, while he would likely oppose Trump in the GOP primary, in this case he’s standing up for what he believes is a gross miscarriage of justice. And a twisting of the law to boot.

Key Takeaways:

  • Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he “will not assist” with any extradition request regarding former President Donald Trump.
  • DeSantis called the indictment a “weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda.”
  • He also accused Manhattan DA Bragg of consistently “bending the law to downgrade felonies and excuse criminal conduct.”
