Democrats have spent the past few weeks trying to support Kamala Harris as much as possible after her nomination as Joe Biden’s replacement in the presidential race. They’ve done this even though she has long been one of the least popular vice presidents ever.
In doing this, Democrats have falsely tried to portray Harris as a moderate. In reality, her record shows that she’s about as radically liberal as a politician can be.
Democrats may have thought that they got away with this. Judging by how many top Democrats decided to sit out this week’s Democratic National Convention, things aren’t going as well as they would have the public believe.
The Hill listed various powerful Democrats who skipped out on the DNC this year, citing other plans. This list included Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT), Rep. Yadira Caraveo (D-CO), Rep. Val Hoyle (R-OR), Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME), Rep. Mary Sattler Peltola (D-AK), and Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA).
These Democrats made excuses about other commitments when announcing they would not attend the DNC. However, it says a lot about the party’s current state that so many top Democrats would opt out of going to the convention altogether.
Frustration Among Democrats
Sen. Fetterman even explicitly spoke out against the Democratic Party when asked about skipping the convention.
“I don’t agree with a lot of their views, but whatever kinds of political choices or any kind of political costs that I’ve incurred throughout all that, I don’t care,” Fetterman said. This appeared to partly be a reference to his support for Israel, something that is seen as unforgivable by much of the Democratic Party.
It’s no wonder that even many Democrats have become frustrated with their party. After all, the Democrat establishment just completely usurped democracy by anointing Kamala Harris as Joe Biden’s replacement in the presidential election without giving Democrat voters any say in the matter.
Perhaps some of the Democrats skipping the convention wanted a say in who their party’s nominee would be or even wanted to throw their hats in the ring themselves. Their party leaders, however, did not have any of it.
This also comes as the Democratic Party is moving further and further left. These days, there’s no such thing as too far left for the Democratic Party. It has become so radical that it would be understandable if some Democrats who hold more moderate views want no part of the convention.
The Democrat establishment has been trying hard to make it look as if their party is more united than ever. Unfortunately for them, given how many of their own skipped their convention, they could have some trouble in paradise on their hands.
Key Takeaways:
- Top Democrats skip DNC.
- Democrat establishment named Harris as Biden’s replacement without letting voters have a say.
- Democratic Party is moving further left than ever.
