When Democratic Sen. John Fetterman checked himself into the hospital last month, the story quickly made the rounds.
Critics maintain that Fetterman is not physically or mentally fit for office, while his supporters say depression isn’t uncommon.
But regardless of his personal issues, his job performance is at a historic low.
By default, the Pennsylvania Senator has been forced to miss plenty of work, though some reports claimed he’s been trying to work from the hospital.
Now, according to watchdog GovTrack, Fetterman has missed almost 83 percent of Senate roll call votes since seeking help.
And that number is disturbingly high (from Fox News):
Fetterman has missed 53 of the 64 Senate roll call votes held during February and March.
His average falls well beyond the lifetime record for missed votes for all current senators, which stands at 2.3%.
Generally, Senators and other high-ranking elected officials must be available for the most important aspects of the job.
If the lifetime record for missed votes is 2.3% and Fetterman is already at 83%, it seems inevitable that he’ll set a new record in this category.
This is really not what taxpayers want to hear, especially those who continue to question Fetterman’s capabilities.
Reports say that Fetterman continues to make progress while at the hospital, though nobody knows when the Democrat will be back to work in a full-time capacity.
Fetterman’s communications director, Joe Calvello, would only say that the Senator is due back “soon.”
There’s also no comment on how Fetterman’s office its fulfilling his day-to-day operations; many wonder if anything at all is happening while he’s in the hospital.
If the Senator is forced to stay much longer, it seems he’ll continue to miss the majority of roll call votes — and that won’t help his reputation at all.
And the big lingering question will always remain: is Sen. John Fetterman really fit for office?
Key Takeaways:
- Sen. John Fetterman has missed 83% of Senate roll call voting so far.
- The lifetime record for missed voting is only 2.3%, and nobody knows when Fetterman will be back to work.
- Critics maintain that Fetterman is not capable of fulfilling his duties of office.
