Fetterman Sends the Senate into Chaos – The Upper Chamber Just Suffered Historic Problem: No Full Chamber in 7 Months

What’s Happening:

For weeks now, Sen. John Fetterman has been hospitalized for stroke-related issues. His office has issued a sparse few updates but the man himself has not spoken to the public or supporters. His absence has only made this hard for Democrats–and the entire Senate itself.

Many fear the man might not return at all. You don’t recover all that well from a severe stroke. But his MIA status is only made worse with the news that several other aged senators have been hospitalized. And the upper chamber faces a historically bad gridlock.

From the New York Post:

The absence of US senators — due to unforeseen medical complications or for unexplained reasons — is delaying key votes and legislation, according to a new report…

The absences have thrown confirmation proceedings in the Senate Judiciary Committee into disarray, as controversial First Circuit Court nominee Michael Delaney awaits a vote.

Thanks to many senators being absent, much of the Senate’s work has been put on hold. This is not only a problem for Joe Biden, who needs the Democrats’ slim Senate majority, but the entire upper chamber.

These missing senators have been a problem for months, now. The Senate apparently hasn’t had a full attendance since August of 2022. This puts not just legislation in jeopardy, but nominees for judge seats.

Fetterman’s office has not issued a strong update in days. The man was admitted for depression, but it seems that this condition is much worse than people think. His doctors, unnamed in the media, claim they need to keep him longer to fine-tune his medication.

To hold someone in the hospital over medication? Yeah, that’s the worst-case scenario. If they don’t trust this man to be on his own as they test new medication, it’s pretty bad. Fetterman has long shown signs of decline, ever since his stroke.

And if you add to that depression, does he really seem fit for office?

Democrats only have a 51-vote majority in the Senate, the slimmest of margins. Without Fetterman, they are up a creek. So, they refuse to acknowledge that his condition is worse than it looks. Are they really keeping a man in office who is too sick to lead?

Wouldn’t be the first time.

Key Takeaways:

  • Many Senate absences have left the upper chamber’s work in disarray.
  • Fetterman is one of several senators out, preventing the Senate from getting anything done.
  • The Democrat has long shown signs of decline since his stroke.
