What’s Happening:
Only twenty Republicans have stalled progress in Congress. These so-called freedom-loving representatives are refusing to support Kevin McCarthy as the next Speaker. These Republicans have failed to explain why they are forcing the government into this gridlock.
In fact, Sean Hannity grilled one of them, Colorado’s Lauren Boebert, for answers. And the Republican refused to give a straight answer.
From Daily Wire:
Fox News host Sean Hannity grilled Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) during an interview Wednesday evening over why she was not backing Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) bid for House speaker…
“Let’s have a final answer. Who do you want?” Hannity asked. “Who will you only support to be speaker? It’s not that hard.”
Boebert declined to answer the question.
Despite asking her several time to learn this group’s plan, Boebert refused to explain why she and other Republicans were blocking McCarthy’s Speakership. She had no answers and the interview devolved into an argument.
You’d think Boebert of all people would be playing it safe right now. She just barely won re-election, edging out her Democrat opponent with just a few hundred votes. Does she really think all this petty bickering is winning over constituents back home?
But this group’s dirty secret has just spilled out. Many of these Republicans are defying McCarthy after he spent millions to help them win their elections.
From Fox News:
Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s political machine spent millions supporting GOP candidates who won their elections and arrived at Capitol Hill only to oppose his bid for speaker…
McCarthy’s Congressional Leadership Fund threw in a total of $120,000 toward the campaigns of Reps. Dan Bishop, R-N.C.; Michael Cloud, R-Texas; Andrew Clyde, R-Ga.; Byron Donalds, R-Fla.; Bob Good, R-Va.; Andy Harris, R-Md.; Ralph Norman, R-S.C.; Scott Perry, R-Pa.; and Matt Rosendale, R-Mont.; along with incoming freshmen Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla.; Josh Brecheen, R-Okla.; Andy Ogles, R-Tenn.; Eli Crane, R-Ariz.; and Keith Self, R-Texas.
The CLF also reportedly spent $900,000 on campaign ads supporting Crane in Arizona.
Talk about gratitude. McCarthy went to bat for many of these Republicans, only to get stabbed in the back. And it’s unclear what they are actually trying to accomplish. They don’t have enough votes to elect another person to the seat.
And all this fighting is just a gift to the left. Boebert couldn’t even explain what their plan was. Has this just been a stunt to give these Republicans more attention in the media? I’m sure that will backfire on them soon enough.
Key Takeaways:
- Lauren Boebert, one of the 20 refusing to back McCarthy, refused to answer Sean Hannity’s questions.
- These 20 Republicans don’t want McCarthy as Speaker but have no other plans.
- Several of these Republicans won their elections, thanks to millions donated by McCarthy.
