He dodged his taxes and illegally carried a firearm. “Guilty,” is the plea to federal prosecutors.
Five years of investigating have determined that Hunter Biden – the rotten apple son of President Joe Biden – is set to plead guilty on two counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax. He is also working out a deal on a firearm possession charge.
The tax charges are from Hunter’s income in 2017 and 2018 where he earned more than $1.5 million each year. From Fox News:
“Despite owing in excess of $100,000 in federal income taxes each year, he did not pay the income tax due for either year,” U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware David C. Weiss said Tuesday in a statement. “According to the firearm Information, from on or about October 12, 2018 through October 23, 2018, Hunter Biden possessed a firearm despite knowing he was an unlawful user of and addicted to a controlled substance.”
But don’t get too excited about Hunter spending any lengthy time in federal prison. The tax charges are misdemeanors, and the federal gun charge is dumbed down as well.
Former President Donald Trump exploded over the news of the weak charges against Hunter. From Fox News:
“They gave him a traffic ticket and cleared everything up,” Trump told Fox News Digital after Biden’s plea deal was announced. “It is a disgrace to the system, it is a disgrace to America, it is a very unfair situation, it is prosecutorial misconduct, and it is election interference — all wrapped up into one.”
Hunter is only facing a maximum penalty of 12 months in prison on each of the tax charges and a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison on the firearm charge. But, Hunter is set to enter into a pretrial diversion agreement on a charge of possession of a firearm by a person despite knowing he was an unlawful user of and addicted to a controlled substance.
The U.S. attorney’s statement was clear – actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties.
Who will decide Hunter’s fate in prison? A federal district court judge will determine any sentencing.
And where is this federal judge? In Joe Biden’s home state of Delaware.
Odds are Joe’s son gets a couple of black marks on his permanent record and the media claims there is “justice for all” as they ramp up efforts to get Joe reelected. Then Joe will have plenty of time for a full pardon of his son with no political consequences.
Trump said it best when he let the press know how he felt.
“This is a corrupt justice system and a corrupt FBI,” Trump said, adding that one of his family members would likely be facing “hundreds of years.”
The White House went into basement mode and shrugged off Hunter’s crimes as a “growing moment.”
“The President and First Lady love their son and support him as he continues to rebuild his life,” White House spokesperson Ian Sams said in a statement Tuesday morning. “We will have no further comment.”
It pays to have friends in high places when you are a low-life criminal, and Hunter has the Big Guy seated on the Oval Office throne protecting his corrupt family members.
Anyone feeling vindicated by this overdue yet hollow ending to this investigation? Not.
