It’s no secret that Rep. Ilhan Omar is not the most popular figure with many Americans. She might have her supporters in his MN district, but it ends pretty much there for lots of America.
This member of AOC’s “squad” has battled persistent accusations and rumors about her character and history. Perhaps the most lingering has been her relationship with her new husband.
She got divorced, as did he, and then they both got married to each other not long after. It was later discovered that her campaign spent over $2 million at his firm for consultation services.
Omar claimed nothing wrong went on. But despite that, she is cutting ties with his company:
Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota announced Sunday that she had severed financial ties with her husband’s consulting firm after her campaign had divvied out nearly $3 million to the company.
Mynett co-owns the firm with Will Hailer, a former staffer for Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison…
Omar’s financial relationship with the firm first came under considerable scrutiny in August 2019 when both she and Mynett were married to other individuals.
Omar asserts that every transaction with her husband’s company was allowed by law. But although everything appeared legal, she still is cutting ties with them.
It’s no secret that politicians often employ the work of a spouse during a campaign. But there is always a stench of something when it happens.
For a politician to spend millions on a company that employs their spouse is a definite red flag. How can voters be assured that this wasn’t just a scheme to funnel cash into hubby’s pockets?
She claims nothing like that happened. If that were the case, why not maintain a relationship with the firm?
Or does it no longer matter, now that the deal has been done?
There was plenty of controversy when both Omar and Mynett left their spouses to eventually marry each other. This arrangement with his firm had already been going on—with millions being exchanged.
This is just another example of how trust in a leader can so easily be eroded by questionable actions. Out of all the firms she could have employed, why did she go with Mynett’s?
That’s the kind of question Americans need to be asking, although we may not ever get a straight answer.
- Ilhan Omar cut ties with the firm co-owned by her husband.
- Her campaign spent nearly $3 million on services during the campaign.
- Omar claims nothing illegal occurred, but is ending the business relationship anyway.
