Joe Manchin shocked the nation when he went back on his word to support Biden’s massive spending and tax bill.
For a long time, Manchin defied Biden’s socialist agenda—by claiming he was looking after the folks back home in West Virginia.
But does Manchin really care about his voters’ well-being? As it turns out, he might be answering to other folks.
From Fox News:
Democratic West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin raised only a fraction of his campaign funds from voters in his home state… while out-of-state contributions and corporate donations make up the bulk of his fundraising.
Manchin… received approximately $6.1 million from individual donors who gave more than $200…
Of that total, only about $65,000 donations came from individuals residing in West Virginia, while over $6 million came from individuals in other states.
How interesting. Manchin has long claimed he opposed Biden’s agenda for the good of West Virginia.
But it turns out the vast majority of his donations come from actual West Virginians.
Just one percent of his large donations came from people who live in his state. Most of it came from outsiders, including corporate donations.
That raises a critical question: is Manchin more concerned with big donor interests or the interests of West Virginia?
West Virginia is a red, Trump-loving state. Only by the skin of his teeth has Manchin survived. And that’s because he’s bucked the left repeatedly.
But perhaps liberals have flooded too much cash into his coffers this year? And he is now more inclined to do their bidding?
We can’t say for sure. But we do find it odd he’s signing off on a bill that will hammer the fossil fuel industry—when West Virginia’s chief industry is coal.
Manchin also said he was against raising taxes. So, why is he supporting a bill that will raise taxes on nearly every American?
- Only 1% of Joe Manchin’s campaign funds came from West Virginia residents.
- Most of his $6.1 million war chest came from outside donors and corporations.
- Manchin has long claimed to be a moderate who supports red West Virginia.
