What’s Happening:
Keeping President Biden in check is like playing a game of whack-a-mole. Every time Joe gets smacked down for another inane decision, he just pops right back up again.
Unfortunately, without GOP control of the Senate, that often means the Democrat moles run the insane asylum.
Thankfully, Republicans and commonsense Americans at least sometimes have an ally on their side: Joe Manchin. The Senator from West Virginia is pretty good as sniffing out rats, and he just pounded one into dust. From The Hill:
Manchin, in a Houston Chronicle opinion piece, said he would not advance the nomination of Laura Daniel-Davis, who has been nominated to be assistant secretary for lands and minerals management at the Interior Department.
He cited an internal Interior Department memo in which Daniel-Davis signed off on a decision not to lower the fees that companies have to pay to the federal government to extract oil and gas because of climate change concerns.
Based on that memo, Manchin said last week that he “will not support anyone who agrees with this type of misguided reasoning.” He went a step further Friday saying he wouldn’t move the nomination forward.
The good news? This is a pattern for the moderate Democrat, who has swatted down other Biden nominees. The bad news? Manchin has caved on big policy decisions more than once.
In this case, Biden’s nominee for the Bureau of Land Management clearly outed herself as a radical who would put the liberal climate change religion priorities far ahead of American energy independence.
Unfortunately for Americans, Biden continues to select nominees based on their minority status or on their ideology, rather than someone who is skilled at looking at the fact and making the best decisions for a wide number of parties involved at the BLM.
Manchin recently hinted that he was not ready to settle on Biden as the 2024 Democrat nominee, and that the Senator himself might consider challenging the incumbent.
A challenge like this could be a signal that Marianne Williamson will not be the only Democrat challenging Biden for the White House. The spiritual guru probably doesn’t have a chance against Biden, but a bipartisan Senator of stature like Manchin just might.
Key Takeaways:
- Senator Manchin shot down Biden’s latest nominee as committee chairman.
- The Senator has often stood up to the President and his own party.
- Manchin may be considering the possibility of a Democrat primary challenge for 2024.
