Joe Manchin Pulls the Rug Out from Democrats Again – He Wants Limits on Guns, But He Refuses to Touch the Filibuster

What’s Happening:

Almost immediately after news of the Uvalde shooting came out, Democrats were pushing their agenda.

People still were waiting for all the facts as Democrats were demanding radical new gun laws.

That includes Senate Democrats, who are pushing for major changes to get their agenda done. Moderate Joe Manchin is on board with gun control but refuses to go “nuclear” to make it happen.

From The Hill:

“It’s just absolutely horrific,” Manchin said. “You all know where I stand; I’ll do anything I can.”

Pressed on whether he would consider scrapping the filibuster to tighten the nation’s gun laws, he warned that it would lead to chaos in the Senate.

“The filibuster is the only thing that prevents us from total insanity. Total insanity,” he said.

After tragic events take place in the country, emotions run high. Our lawmakers are quick to make rash and drastic decisions, based purely on emotion.

Democrats exploit crises and tragedies all the time this very way, to pass extreme policies and laws.

But Sen. Joe Manchin, while willing to do “anything” in the name of gun control, is at least refusing to end the filibuster to pass a bill.

The filibuster came up because, yet again, Democrats are using a crisis to transform the Senate. They assume Republicans are not willing to support any bill they put forward (probably because it will be extreme).

So, they go back to ending the one rule that gives the minority party a voice.

To be honest, it is entirely possible that both Democrats and Republicans can draft a bill that protects schools. A bill that both parties can agree on.

But that’s not what this is about. Democrats want all the power, for years to come. They don’t appear interesting in gun control to protect kids but removing the filibuster so they can do anything.

Even Joe Manchin is willing to pass extreme laws that undermine our 2nd Amendment. But he is willing to acknowledge that the Senate would turn to chaos if they eliminate the filibuster rule.

That brings us back to the question: why can Democrats work with Republicans to pass a bill that everyone supports?

Doesn’t seem like they are willing to do that at all.

Key Takeaways:

  • Joe Manchin stated he will not end the filibuster to pass gun control.
  • The Democrat said he was willing to do “anything” to prevent future shootings.
  • But he warned that eliminating the rule would turn the Senate into chaos.
