Democrats in D.C. are hellbent on passing a $3.5 trillion takeover of the economy. It will not only raise taxes and harm jobs but expand the federal government. They hope to abuse reconciliation once again to cut out Republicans.
But it looks like things are not working out for them.
Moderate Democrat Joe Manchin has been vocal about his opposition to the bill. He was previously warned it would hurt our already flagging economy. He’s also questioned how Biden was going to pay for it. Now, in a stunning move, he is calling on Congress to delay voting on it until next year.
From The Daily Wire and Axios:
A top Democrat senator appears to be leaning toward stalling voting on Democrat President Joe Biden’s massive $3.5 trillion social-spending bill that has been largely criticized as being a partisan wish list for the Democrat Party.
“Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) is privately saying he thinks Congress should take a ‘strategic pause’ until 2022 before voting on President Biden’s $3.5 trillion social-spending package,” Axios reported. “
Sen. Manchin, who has frequently criticized this socialist bill, is calling on Congress to push back voting on it until 2022. This essentially dooms the bill from getting passed at all.
Why? For a few reasons.
Congress tends to rely on momentum to get anything done. When a fire is lit under congressmen, they can pass all kinds of bills. Anything that slows down the passing of a bill essentially dooms it. By pushing it back to next year, Manchin is ensuring enthusiasm for this socialist package will be long gone.
Democrats like Pelosi and Schumer know this. By next year, they will be facing down the 2022 midterms. They will be much less likely to take a risk, knowing many Democrats could lose their jobs. They need to pass it this year, perhaps this month.
But if they ignore Manchin’s urgings, he has a perfectly sound reason for voting no. He doesn’t have to put his neck on the line, saying he totally opposed the bill. He just has to say they ignored his advice to hold off on voting for it. So, he had “no choice” but to vote no.
Manchin, in this clever move, is putting Democrats between a rock and a hard place. Without Manchin’s vote, the bill ain’t getting passed. But if they delay it until 2022, more Democrats might turn on the massive bill.
It might not even end up back on the Senate floor.
We’ll see just how desperate Pelosi and Schumer are.
- Joe Manchin sabotaged Biden’s spending bill by saying it should be pushed back to next year.
- Manchin has long opposed the $3.5 trillion bill, saying it will harm the economy.
- Pushing back the bill could prevent it from being passed at all.
