Here’s a bit of good news in the midst of an intense year: Governor Whitmer is facing serious backlash for her Democratic leadership. She just instituted significant lockdown restrictions again.
The woman literally defied the courts to push and extend lockdown orders. What else can people conclude but that she wants to abuse her authority?
Now, her chickens could be coming home to roost as Michigan’s legislature is striking back:
On Wednesday, three GOP Michigan members of the House of Representatives introduced House Resolution 324, which calls for the impeachment of Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
Reps. Beau LaFave, Matt Maddock and Daire Rendon wrote in the resolution: “Gretchen E. Whitmer has acted in conflict with her constitutional duties as Governor. She has exceeded her constitutional authority, violated the constitutional rights of the people of Michigan, issued orders that are not in the best interests of the people of this state, and used the Pandemic as an opportunity to reward political allies.”
Don’t be surprised to see this happening in Michigan. Be more surprised that we’re not seeing it in every state with an out-of-control governor.
Executive orders that shut down private businesses and force people into their homes are on shaky legal ground. You find me the part in a state’s constitution (or the U.S. Constitution), that says a governor can do that.
The courts ruled numerous times that Whitmer’s lockdown orders were unlawful. But she persisted anyway.
When residents demanded their freedoms back, she appeared to extend her lockdowns simply out of spite.
The resolution outlines many areas where the governor overstepped her authority. It’s hard to argue with such a complete and detailed list.
This, by the way, is very different than the vague accusations Democrats made against Trump, such as “obstruction of Congress.”
Many people have been worried that governors’ COVID responses have gone beyond protecting against the virus. At this point, it’s hard to believe that such abusive restrictions do anything to safeguard people’s health.
What’s even crazier is to think this governor is doing any of this out of concern for Americans.
Do you think Gov. Whitmer should be ejected from office?
- Michigan lawmakers have put forward a resolution to impeach Gov. Whitmer.
- They accuse the governor of abusing her power by extending unlawful lockdown orders.
- State courts even ruled her orders in opposition to the law, but she pushed them anyway.
