Minutes After DeSantis Drops Out – Trump Drops a Startling Response No One Expected

Over the weekend, Republican Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis dropped out of the presidential primaries. He made the decision after losing in Iowa, days before the New Hampshire primaries.

The candidate spent $120 million on his campaign, but failed to bring in the votes. DeSantis failed to gain momentum early on, due in part to Donald Trump’s relentless—and vicious—attacks.

Donald Trump frequently slammed his former ally. Despite this, DeSantis endorsed him during his announcement. And now, Trump has issued an official statement responding to the news.

From The Post Millennial:
GOP frontrunner President Donald Trump said that he was “very honored” to have the endorsement of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis after he dropped out of the presidential race earlier on Sunday.

When asked by Fox Digital, Trump said “very honored to have his endorsement. I look forward to working together with him to beat Joe Biden, who is the worst and most corrupt president in the history of our country.”

After spending over a year ridiculing DeSantis, Donald Trump issued a statement claiming he was “very honored” to receive the governor’s endorsement. Trump went on to say that he would be “working together” with DeSantis to defeat President Biden.

Even before DeSantis announced his presidential campaign, Donald Trump took shots at him on social media. Trump mocked DeSantis, despite his massive successes in Florida. The former president took credit for DeSantis’ success and even made fun of his height.

DeSantis failed to fire back, even as he launched his campaign. Any momentum he would have generated from his landslide 2022 re-election was derailed by Democrat-launched lawsuits against the former president.

It’s unclear how DeSantis will work with Trump in 2024, if at all. Pundits have long called on both candidates to bury the hatchet and form an alliance. Could DeSantis become Trump’s running mate—or have a place in his future cabinet?

All that remains to be seen. In the meantime, it is likely DeSantis will do something to help Trump’s campaign in the Sunshine State. Expect to see him pop up in Trump rallies, as we get closer to the November election.

Key Takeaways:

  • Ron DeSantis endorsed Donald Trump as he dropped out of the race.
  • Trump stated he was “very honored” to receive his endorsement, despite mercilessly attacking him for over a year.
  • Trump claimed he would be “working together” with DeSantis to defeat Biden in 2024.
