The pro-life vs. pro-choice battle rages on. And with the much-anticipated Supreme Court decision on Roe v. Wade looming, the country is bracing for impact.
States are already preparing pieces of legislation that supports one side of the argument. Red states are looking to protect the unborn while blue states are seeking more laws that “empower” women.
And in New York, it’s no surprise that Governor Kathy Hochul will be doubling down on the pro-choice side.
Hochul just signed a new piece of legislation that’s designed to bolster abortion rights and give abortion providers more room to maneuver. She also provided a series of statements that have come under scrutiny.
These statements are especially questionable in light of the attacks on pro-life organizations, and the concerning threats about a “night of rage” if Roe v. Wade is overturned.
Pro-life supporters claim the other side is becoming increasingly dangerous and hostile, and violence could erupt if federal abortion rights disappear. That didn’t stop Gov. Hochul from taking a jab at conservatives, though.
In her statement, she touted the bill and added:
This is the United States of America, where freedom and liberty are supposed to mean something.
It’s the rock upon which we were founded. It is supposed to mean something. Except in the eyes of some neanderthals who say, women are not entitled to those rights.
Pro-lifers have heard the “neanderthal” insult before, but it’s especially jarring when it comes from a high-ranking elected official.
It’s all the more concerning given those recent attacks. For example, a pro-life pregnancy center in Buffalo was firebombed earlier this month, allegedly done by a radical pro-abortion group called “Jane’s Revenge.”
In fact, there have been a total of 23 attacks on pro-life resources centers in the past few months, and we’re hearing rumors that the assaults won’t stop any time soon.
The FBI is reportedly looking into the situation and told The Daily Wire that they “take all threats seriously.” Even so, that may not be reassuring to pro-lifers who feel their very lives might be in danger.
And with top politicians like Hochul declaring a certain group “neanderthals,” that only adds more fuel to the fire.
The Supreme Court is expected to rule on Roe v. Wade and the now-infamous leak hints at an overturn — if that happens, expect abortion rights activists to kick into high gear.
They maintain a woman’s right to choose while those against abortion claim women have no right to murder unborn babies. Exactly when life begins is a focal point of the heated debate.
And no matter what happens in the Court, the debate won’t end overnight.
- New York Gov. Kathy Hochul called pro-life supporters “neanderthals” in a recent statement.
- She also passed a new piece of legislation designed to boost abortion rights.
- This comes after over 20 attacks on pro-life centers around the country, and concerning threats of a “Night of Rage” after the Roe v. Wade decision.
