Hours After Republican Meets with DeSantis – He Turns Around and Quickly Endorses the Frontrunner

What’s Happening:

Many Americans are waiting to see what Gov. Ron DeSantis will do in 2024. The man won a landslide re-election victory in 2022. But many believe he will take on Donald Trump in the GOP primaries for the chance to become president.

The drama stirred up by the DA’s indictment of Trump has convinced many within the party to back the former president. Although we are a year away from primary voting, many figures are getting behind Trump’s third presidential campaign. One Florida representative appeared to be on the fence. He met with Gov. DeSantis (without saying why) and then came out with an endorsement.

From Mediaite:

Former President Donald Trump picked up another House Republican’s endorsement on Tuesday, but one that came with an extra bit of flavor as Congressman Lance Gooden (R-TX) made the endorsement after meeting personally with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R)…

“Today, after careful consideration and a positive meeting with Governor Ron DeSantis, Congressman Lance Gooden (R-TX) announces his endorsement of President Donald J. Trump for the 2024 presidential election,” announced Gooden in a press release.

Wow. So much for gratitude. A House representative from Florida reportedly met with Ron DeSantis. The subject of the meeting has not been disclosed. But Lance Gooden soon afterward issued a statement endorsing Donald Trump for president.

The timing of the two events makes it seem as if his endorsement was related to his meeting. But we don’t know what the two men spoke about. DeSantis has yet to announce a presidential campaign. Perhaps he spoke with Gooden about that. Perhaps not.

Regardless, Gooden seems to be suggesting that whatever occurred in that meeting convinced him to back Trump. The former president has received numerous endorsements from Republican figures. But endorsements at this point might be a bit too early. Endorsements don’t mean election victories.

And while some Republicans are backing Trump right now, it could simply be a knee-jerk reaction to his indictment. When the dust settles in a year, voters will have to decide who they really want running.

Will Gooden’s endorsement hold water then?

Key Takeaways:

  • A House representative from Florida endorsed Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign.
  • Lance Gooden claimed he met with Gov. Ron DeSantis before making the announcement.
  • Ron DeSantis has yet to announce a 2024 campaign, though he is a favorite to win.
