For decades, the United Nations has doubled as a soapbox for tin-pot dictators and communist regimes to wag their fingers at the freest nation on earth. Year after year, American diplomats sat there – politely, predictably – while representatives of oppressive governments delivered theatrical sermons about “imperialism.” Meanwhile, their own citizens scraped by without power, food, or hope. Previous administrations smiled through it, issued toothless statements, and shuffled along. The thugs noticed. Of course they did.

That playbook expired. Under this administration, when a foreign bully tries to throw elbows – especially on American soil – the response isn’t a sternly worded memo. It’s a one-way ticket home.

From the Daily Wire:

Secretary of State Marco Rubio gave a thuggish Cuban envoy the heave-ho from American soil on Tuesday after an unhinged Cuban party hack got into a shouting match with U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Mike Waltz and stormed the podium as Waltz spoke.

In the hallway, Cuban First Secretary Richard Tur de la Concepcion reportedly tried to manhandle Waltz’s spokesman, J.P. Freire, lunging to grab an iPhone that was recording the spectacle.

So much for socialist hospitality. Here’s how we got there.

A Green Beret who doesn’t flinch

The blow up erupted during the UN General Assembly’s annual debate on the US embargo against Cuba – a ritual Havana exploits every year to grandstand. Waltz took the podium and did something diplomats almost never do. He told the truth, and he brought receipts.

He held up photographs of Fidel Castro sporting two Rolex watches while his people starved. He displayed images of private mansions, luxury retreats, and Castro’s grandson lounging on a yacht. A yacht. On an island where citizens can’t get fuel to cook dinner. The hypocrisy isn’t subtle.

Cuba’s foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, charged the rostrum shouting, “You are a liar!” Waltz – a 27-year Green Beret, mind you – didn’t so much as blink. “Back up!” he barked. “This isn’t Havana. You’re not going to intimidate me.”

Rubio drops the hammer

By that evening, Secretary Rubio had already signed the paperwork. The Cuban diplomat who laid hands on an American? Expelled. Gone within 24 hours. No interagency review. No months-long deliberation. Just swift, unmistakable action.

“You lay a hand on an American here in the United States, President Trump, Secretary Rubio, and myself, we’re not going to stand for it,” Waltz declared on Hannity. “There will be consequences.”

For Rubio – whose own parents fled that brutal regime – this was more than a diplomatic maneuver. This was personal vindication. The son of Cuban immigrants, now America’s top diplomat, booting a Castro lackey off US soil. You’d be hard-pressed to script something more fitting.

Waltz summed up the regime’s rotten core perfectly: “Sadly, the only thing equal about communism is everyone’s equally poor.” He promised the Cuban people will see freedom – and that it will arrive on President Trump’s watch.

The era of grinning through communist tantrums at the UN is finished. Washington has leaders who act first and skip the apology tour entirely.

Key Takeaways

  • Secretary Rubio expelled a Cuban diplomat within 24 hours for accosting an American official.
  • Ambassador Waltz exposed the Castro regime’s lavish corruption while ordinary Cubans starve.
  • Communist intimidation tactics no longer rattle American diplomats under this administration.
  • The Trump administration is restoring real consequences to American foreign policy.
