A Republican candidate faced off against a swarm of Democrats in the race for the vacant U.S. Senate seat in California. The once sleepy race where Democrats were expected to run rampant came alive in a fiery debate.
Reps. Adam Schiff of Burbank, Katie Porter of Irvine and Barbara Lee of Oakland were all smiles as they openly attacked their lone GOP rival. Despite being a newcomer to politics, this challenger stood in the box and came back swinging.
The California Senate race will determine who succeeds Sen. Diane Feinstein (D) who was not running for re-election before her death in September. She spent 31 years as a U.S. senator. The time for mourning has passed, and this Senate race erupted into a slugfest.
Former MLB All-Star Steve Garvey (R) brazenly accused Schiff of lying to America after Schiff used the platform to attack former President Donald Trump.
From The Daily Wire:
“I think you’ve been censured for lying,” Garvey stated bluntly to Schiff. “Sir, you lied to 300 million people and you can’t take that back.”
Garvey was rebutting Schiff’s attacks against Trump. A U.S. House resolution in June, 2023, censured Schiff for “the allegation that President Donald Trump colluded with Russia to interfere in the 2016 Presidential election has been revealed as false by numerous in-depth investigations.”
The resolution also stated that Schiff hindered the ability of the Intelligence Committee to uphold its responsibilities to protect national security. Schiff is the former chair of the House Intelligence Committee.
Schiff’s questionable antics were further highlighted by the resolution. It stated that he “behaved dishonestly and dishonorably” on many occasions. His behavior, the resolution stated, included “publicly, falsely denying” that his staff communicated with a whistleblower to launch the first impeachment of President Trump.
Trump has derided Schiff for years, and the California debate showed how the former president still affects political opponents from a distance. Schiff got called out for lying and had to deflect attention from his own actions by attacking Trump.
Garvey held his ground amidst the Democrat onslaught at the debate and scored some hits against leading Democrats. The debate helped propel him to center stage in the field where California voters will decide which two candidates face off in November for the coveted Senate seat.
