After acting like a group of work-from-home wannabes, men in the U.S. Senate now need to spruce up their wardrobe to higher standards. Americans don’t want to see their political leaders of the highest levels meandering around in gym shorts making important decisions.
That seemed to be the lax attitude prevailing in the Senate after Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) quietly relaxed attire requirements last week. This allowed Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) to continue to wear baggie shorts and hoodies. The new look on the floor of the Senate sparked a bipartisan outcry against the change.
Democrats led the backlash and Republicans joined in to stop Schumer’s kowtowing to substandard clothing choices. The result was an overwhelming rebuke of the relaxed dress code and a new standard set forth in writing.

The Senate unanimously passed a resolution late Wednesday formalizing business attire as the proper dress code while on the floor of the chamber following bipartisan backlash… The new written rules include a coat, tie, and slacks for men.
The resolution does not include dress codes for women members. The shorts and hoodie hoopla follows the actions of freshman Sen. Fetterman who couldn’t seem to match a tie and jacket from the time he ran for office in 2022. This led to Schumer’s sneaky rule change that was referred to as the “Fetterman Rule.” Fetterman is the big and tall clothing aficionado who was routinely seen around the Capitol building wearing gym shorts and his trademark hoodie.
The entire scenario is a silly situation for the Senate, which has business to take care of that affects the entire nation and even the world. What is even more silly, and sad, is the reaction from Schumer who acted like the bipartisan bill to set a dress code was some sort of grand legislation spurred by “leadership” among the senators.
“Though we’ve never had an official dress code, the events over the past week have made us all feel as though formalizing one is the right path forward,” Schumer said.
This guy needs to put a sock in it and get back to working for the American people. Next thing you know these “elite” politicians will be clapping when the emperor, uh, president, walks through the halls with no clothes on.
