All eyes were on how this week’s Senate impeachment trial would end.
There were a lot of questions about whether or not the Senate would vote to bring witnesses to the stand.
Honestly, after the Democrats’ opening arguments, many thought this would end quickly. Then, conveniently, John Bolton leaked a claim that Trump discussed with him pressuring Ukraine.
A few Republicans were on the fence. Some of them were considering breaking from the party to vote with the Democrats.
If witnesses are subpoenaed, this trial could last weeks or months, not days.
But it seems like the dam is about to break. Because two key Republicans just announced how they are going to vote.
From Fox News:
Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski came out Friday against calling witnesses in President Trump’s impeachment trial, all but assuring the Senate will move to wrap up proceedings with a likely acquittal in a matter of days, if not hours…
The announcement came after Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn… announced late Thursday that he would not support additional witnesses in Trump’s “shallow, hurried and wholly partisan” trial.
Woah. Lots of people were wondering how key “swing” Republicans would vote on the witness issue.
One of them was Lisa Murkowski. Democrats were convinced this senator would side with them to vote for witnesses.
But today, Murkowski put the left in their place, by saying she will not vote for witnesses. In fact, she condemned what the Democrats were doing, calling the impeachment partisan “from the very beginning.”
Ouch! In addition to her, Sen. Lamar Alexander announced he would not vote for witnesses.
That means the only Republicans that would vote for witnesses are Mitt Romney and Susan Collins. That gives Democrats just 49 votes for witnesses.
Which means, they ain’t getting any.
If they vote against witnesses, it means the trial is basically over. The only thing left is for the Senate to vote to convict the president or acquit.
Democrats need a supermajority of 2/3’s to remove Trump from office. We always knew that was just about impossible.
We could be looking at an end to this impeachment charade late tonight or tomorrow morning.
Trump will be free and clear as he gives his State of the Union address. And you know he’s going to torch them with it!
SHARE if you’re ready to see the Senate acquit Trump once and for all!
