‘Squad’ Member Makes Humiliating Mistake – Then Gets Wrecked by Fact-Checking Patriots

Last weekend, millions of Americans celebrated Memorial Day. While they were out grilling and spending time with family, they remembered those who gave the ultimate gift for their liberty. Memorial Day is when Americans remember those who died defending their country.

On that day, many politicians post messages to capitalize on the moment. Often, they say something to commemorate soldiers who died to protect the country.

Even liberals can squeeze out a few patriotic words to honor the fallen. “Squad” member Rep. Ilhan Omar took to social media to post something about Memorial Day. But it seems she didn’t fully understand the point of the day. And users were quick to call her out.

From Daily Caller:
Minnesota’s Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar mixed up holiday practices in a tweet Monday about Memorial Day causing a backlash on Twitter.

“On [Memorial Day], we honor the heroic men and women who served our country. We owe them more than our gratitude – they have more than earned access to quality mental health services, job opportunities, housing assistance, and the benefits they were promised,” the Minnesota Democrat tweeted. The Tweet appears to have been deleted.

Rp. Ilhan Omar posted a message on Memorial Day calling for better services to the “men and women who served our country.” Not a bad sentiment, on its face. Except she claimed Memorial Day is about honoring living service members—and used that to call for more benefits to be given to them.

Users were quick to point out her mistake. Memorial Day is not about living servicemembers in the Armed Forces, but those who died.

Users explained that Veteran’s Day is when Americans remember living servicemembers who fought in war. The congresswoman was confusing the two holidays—which could have been easily corrected by a Google search.

Rep. Omar has since deleted the post, perhaps to avoid further backlash. Beyond getting the holidays mixed up, Americans might wonder what Omar has actually done to provide those “quality mental health services, job opportunities, housing assistance, and the benefits.”

The Department of Veterans Affairs is notorious for waste and abuse. Congress largely neglects veterans. Under President Biden, a fellow Democrat with Omar, little has been done to improve the lives of veterans or help them get access to those benefits she claims they deserve.

It’s very easy for a politician to post a comment like this online. But rarely do we see members of Congress putting their necks on the line to make it a reality.

Key Takeaways:

  • Ilhan Omar claimed Memorial Day was about honoring veterans.
  • Users pointed out she confused the holiday with Veteran’s Day.
  • Omar demanded benefits for servicemembers, but it is unknown if she has actually fought for them in Congress.
