Top Texas Official Faces Career-Ending Karma – He Faces Stiff Punishment for Trying to Impeach the AG

Last week, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was acquitted of impeachment charges. The entire saga shocked the conservative state, as a Republican-led state House turned on its own AG. Paxton claimed that the Biden administration had a hand in the impeachment. Two lawyers investigating him worked for Biden’s Department of Justice.

But the entire impeachment controversy was spearheaded by House Speaker Dade Phelan. Paxton accused the Republican lawmaker of being a “liberal” and working with the Biden administration to try to take him down. Now that the impeachment has failed, it appears the Texas Senate Republicans have some answer for Phelan. And they just made a move that will have the Texan worried.

From The Post Millennial:
At the Texas Senate Republican Executive Committee (SREC) meeting on Saturday, GOP leadership voted 58-2 on a resolution that called for Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan…

“Speaker Dade Phelan ignored or actively undermined several GOP priorities during the regular session…”

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton also called for Phelan to resign in a post on X. “In May, I called on liberal Speaker Dade Phelan to resign after he was recorded numerous times presiding over the Texas House in a state of apparent debilitating intoxication,” he said.

Texas Senate Republicans are demanding Texas House Speaker to resign. They cited several reasons for why they want the lawmakers to step down from his position of leadership. Top on their list was his failed impeachment against Attorney General Ken Paxton.

But that was only the beginning.

The Texas Senate Republican Executive Committee accused Paxton of appointing nine Democrats to lead important legislative committees. They accused him of ignoring or actively trying to undermine Republican priorities.

They also claimed Phelan failed to prioritize legislation that would have secured the border. The group is calling for “new leadership” in the upcoming special session. This resolution could be used by Texas legislatures to hold a vote to remove Phelan from his speakership.

In fact, the resolution urged Republicans to vote Phelan out if he refused to resign.

AG Paxton has accused Phelan of being “intoxicated” while leading sessions. He stated that Pheland wasted “millions of tax dollars” on the impeachment.

An upcoming special session will be held to discuss an education bill. Republicans will try to use this session to force Phelan out of power.

Key Takeaways:

  • Republicans in Texas passed a resolution demanding Texas House Speaker Phelan to resign.
  • The Republican-led the impeachment against AG Ken Paxton.
  • Texas Republicans have accused Phelan of being a liberal and undermining Republican goals.
