There was a time when former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis were allies. In fact, most would’ve considered them good friends.
But ever since Trump announced his third campaign for the White House, the “bromance” has disappeared. Trump seems to be leading the mud-slinging charge, though DeSantis has hit back occasionally.
The latest dig comes from Trump on Truth Social, and it’s all about the numbers.
Since the former POTUS announced he would be arrested over the Stormy Daniels scandal, some polls have shown a surge of support for Trump. Some say the entire fiasco has backfired on Trump’s foes.
On top of that, it also seems like support for the popular Florida leader has dipped.
This is what Trump pointed out in a post yesterday (via Breitbart):
Ron DeSanctimonious is running—without running! … But he should take a look at his Polls, which are crashing like few people have seen before.
That’s because he’s merely an average REPUBLICAN Governor who has great Public Relations, far better than deserved.
Most polls show Trump holding a significant advantage over DeSantis for the GOP presidential nomination. We’re seeing double-digit leads in many surveys now, which is giving Trump more confidence.
Trump also claimed DeSantis is desperately trying to “rescue his failing campaign,” though the Republican governor hasn’t officially announced a campaign just yet.
The former President than said, “it’s my fault, I put him there.” This isn’t the first time Trump has taken credit for DeSantis winning the governorship in the Sunshine State.
As for DeSantis, he recently told Piers Morgan that he “has what it takes to be President” and he added that he could “beat Biden.”
As for the “Ron DeSanctimonious” nickname, he just laughed at it, saying “I don’t really know what it means, but I kinda like it.” He then said:
I mean you can call me whatever you want, just as long as you also call me a winner because that’s what we’ve been able to do in Florida, is put a lot of points on the board and really take this State to the next level.
The Trump/Stormy mess isn’t going the way Democrats hoped it would, as the grand jury proceedings for this week have been canceled. And Republican leaders have promised legal pushback.
For example, Rep. Jim Jordan and other GOP members have slammed the move as a “political witch hunt,” and have threatened to withhold federal funds for prosecutors who put politics ahead of justice.
But when it comes to Trump vs. DeSantis, that’s a battle that will continue to rage, likely through 2024.
Key Takeaways:
- Former President Donald Trump lashed out at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, saying his polls are “crashing.”
- Trump called DeSantis an “average” GOP leader, and that he’s trying to “rescue his failing campaign.”
- According to most polls, Trump continues to hold a large lead over DeSantis.
