UnitedHealthcare CEO May Have Put a Chilling Message On His Bullet Casings

UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was assassinated in broad daylight on Wednesday morning. The 50-year-old was shot dead outside the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan just after 6:45 a.m.

At the time of this writing, Thompson’s killer remains at large. Indeed, the NYPD has launched a massive manhunt in the hopes of finding him.

Now, it’s been revealed that the assassin may have left a message at the crime scene in the form of words on his bullet casings. What police found written on them is nothing short of chilling.

From Fox News:
New evidence also suggests that the suspect who killed Thompson on Wednesday may have left a message behind on the bullet casings at the scene. Police sources told the New York Post that the words “deny,” “depose” and “defend” were written on the live rounds and casings left behind by the assassin after the shooting.

Evidence also shows that each bullet and casing had just one word written on it leading them to believe he may have been trying to leave a message, sources said. The words on the ammunition may have been a reference to strategies insurance companies use to try to avoid paying claims, the Associated Press reported.

These three words are strikingly similar to a 2010 book condemning the healthcare insurance business, which Thompson was a leader of. The book is called “Delay, Deny, Defend,” which is two of the three words seemingly left by the assassin. The book is sub-titled: “Why insurance companies don’t pay claims and what you can do about it.”

Meanwhile, on Thursday, police released surveillance images of the suspect. He bizarrely appears to be smiling in one of them.

“With these new photos, if indeed they are the shooter, it is now only a matter of time,” said Fox News crime analysis contributor Paul Mauro.

“Facial recognition and other technologies have come a long way, and my understanding is that the police have been making progress on other fronts in this case,” he continued. “It is truer than ever that you can’t get away with murder these days. The detectives will get whoever is behind this, and soon.”

Manhunt For Suspect Is Underway

Thompson’s murder was captured on surveillance video. Based on this footage, police believe that the assassin was an experienced shooter. At one point, the gun jammed, but the assassin was able to clear it and continue shooting. This is indicative of someone who knows their way around a gun. The killer used a silencer to carry out the killing, and he immediately fled the scene.

“Based on the evidence we have so far, it does appear that the victim was specifically targeted,” NYPD Chief of Detective Joe Kenny said in a press conference. “But at this point, we do not know why. This does not appear to be a random act of violence.”

The victim’s estranged wife Paulette “Pauley” Thompson, 51, said after the murder that her husband had been getting “some threats.”

“Basically, I don’t know, a lack of coverage?” she said, indicating that the killing was tied to Thompson’s job.

“I don’t know details,” she later added. “I just know that he said there were some people that had been threatening him.”

Only time will tell if police are able to catch this culprit. We can only hope and pray that they do.
