According to the findings, the amount of the Freedom Caucus earmarks are more than the OpenTheBooks.com study that showed progressive members of the so-called Squad had sponsored $220 million of earmarks over the same period of time.
The so-called Freedom Caucus, a group of conservative lawmakers in Congress, has been exposed for adding $957 million in earmarks to laws passed over the last two years. This is over double what the Democrat “squad” has added in earmarks over the same period, which was $220 million.
Open The Books claimed this practice of adding earmarks to balloon spending by Congress is the “currency of corruption.” And they say it is being “abused by both parties.”
They explain, “When it comes to burning through our tax dollars, there’s effectively one party in Washington, and it’s addicted to spending your money.” According to the report the Freedom Caucus is standing “shoulder-to-shoulder” with progressives like the squad.
When one group does it, it makes it “excusable” for the other side to do it. With Republicans in charge of the House over the last two years, it emboldened conservatives to push massive spending—right under the nose of the taxpayer.
At a time when inflation is crippling working families, with the economy in free fall, these Republicans were burning through tax dollars for their special interests.
