The bill, signed in 2021 by Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom, will force stores that sell childcare items or toys to pay a $500 fine should the store fail to create a gender-neutral toy section for kids 12 years old and under.

As red states pass laws protecting children from transgender propaganda, California is going after stores for not including “gender-neutral” sections in their toy selection. In fact, a new law going into effect next year will fine stores if they lack this section.

It is unclear what a “gender-neutral” toy section means. Are Barbie dolls banned? Are G.I. Joe’s forbidden? What is a gender-neutral toy in the first place? Some stores might have a hard time defining this since many toys have no gender associated with them in the first place.

Many will be critical of the state for passing this kind of law when crime, poverty, and homelessness are exploding. California’s government appears to be completely preoccupied with woke priorities.

Meanwhile, high taxes and government spending are crippling its economy. Reports reveal that the state is facing a massive budget deficit in the new year. It is unlikely these fines will be able to make up for it.

California has lost tens of thousands of taxpayers. Stunts like this will surely drive more people away from the state. To punish businesses for promoting a far-left political agenda will not be welcomed by business owners.
